Sharon Lovejoy!

We love all of Sharon Lovejoy's books but "Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots" in one of our favorites! She has great ideas for gardening and gardening with kids!

Tipping the scale!

Honey in honeycombsImage via Wikipedia
Tomorrow we are going to take the frames out of the hive.  It will be an exciting morning here. We have only one hive that is going to give us some gold this summer but they are diligent little things.  It is a "hybrid" hive...meaning they are Russalians.  That would be Russian breeding with Italian bees!  We are just happy they get along, obviously, very well!  Wages are going to be made on how many pounds of honey might come from these little creatures that keep us all alive.  We should know the results by the end of the weekend!

Gentle Ways with Her Bees.

Here is a link to our first apprentice.  She is explaining about her hives and what she is doing.  The sound quality is not great but her gentleness is precious.  You will also get to see a hummingbird moth come and be a ham in the video!  Enjoy.

Taking a peek

This past week we took a peek and was excited about the honey we saw. We pulled out some frames to check on everything and so far we think things are going well There are the occasional thieves that try and stop by to snag some of the honey but the hives are doing well at keeping them at bay.

This is our youngest beekeeper now taking care of her own hives.
